About us

Our owner:

Ed Klotz brings more than 20 years of ophthalmic knowledge and works closely with you to determine your unique eye care needs and fit you with the best solution. Ed has an opticians license from New York State. He is a member of the American Board of Optometry. Ed lives in Brewster and is passionate about motorcycling. He is also passionate about providing the best eye care possible.

Our history:

Our company was originally established in 1939, by Henry and Gertrude Bauer, as the Bauer Optical Export Corp. We began as an export sales force for a number of major American ophthalmic manufacturers. The company was purchased in 1978 by Ed Klotz Sr. and maintained the export sales focus.

After college, Ed Klotz Jr. began working at our store and expanded the business to become a stock office for local laboratories in order to get lenses faster. With so many products being produced overseas, export sales faced an uncertain future. In order to evolve, Ed Jr. went back to school and obtained his Opticians license. He took over the company in 1999, upon his father's retirement, and changed the name to Bauer Optical Eye Care.

Ed Klotz Jr. is the sole owner and Hastings-on-Hudson is the only location.
